JOURNEY TO LIBERATION

Maya stared at the half-written email, frustration gnawing at her. A close friend, someone she'd confided in for years, had offered a shoulder to cry on but hadn't followed through. Disappointment sat heavy in her chest, a familiar feeling born of unmet expectations.

It wasn't the first time. Maya had a knack for assuming people would understand her, intuitively pick up on her needs. But life, she was slowly realizing, wasn't a mind-reading exercise. We all lived within our own shells, shaped by unique experiences and perspectives.

The weight of these expectations, she realized, was suffocating. It made her interactions transactional, tinged with a silent plea for a specific response. It wasn't fair to her or the other person.

Memories flickered – a major event that went unacknowledged, a silent shoulder during a difficult time. Each sting left a residue of hurt, a feeling of betrayal. But with each new instance, a truth became clearer: expectations were a recipe for disappointment.

Taking a deep breath, Maya deleted the accusatory email. It wouldn't solve anything. Maybe her friend was going through something, maybe they just weren't wired for emotional reciprocity. There was no point dissecting their actions, projecting her hurt onto them.

This wasn't about condoning their behavior, but about letting go. Holding onto resentment only chained her to the past. Maya understood that some people weren't built for deep connections, and that was okay. It wasn't a reflection of her worth, just a difference in how they navigated the world.

This realization was liberating. It allowed her to appreciate the friends who truly saw her, the ones who offered empathy and support without expectation. It allowed her to cherish those connections, to nurture them with genuine care, not burdened by unspoken demands.

path ahead filled with sunshine

Life, Maya concluded, was about embracing the present moment, about offering kindness and understanding without expecting anything in return. It was about selectively letting people into her heart, those who resonated with her spirit, and letting go of those who couldn't. This wasn't about erasing past experiences, but about learning from them, about moving forward with an open heart and lighter expectations. The path wouldn't always be smooth, but it would be filled with genuine connections, free from the burden of unmet desires.
